What is this forecast app?
A distributed deletion witness
CopyWake maps where a selected record or memory may have travelled, sends deletion or correction actions, checks for later resurfacing and records every known or unresolved result.
- The witness maps declared copies, derived records, backups, and downstream recipients without exposing their contents unnecessarily.
- The person chooses deletion, correction, quarantine, or lawful retention review for each record family.
- Each operator returns a signed action receipt or a specific refusal with purpose, authority, and expiry.
- Independent test agents later check for unwanted return and reopen failed actions with the responsible operator.
The result: The person gets an intelligible map of completed, retained, unknown, and resurfaced copies plus a human route for every unresolved item.
Why it is on the list
Deletion becomes a network test when autonomous services continuously copy and reconstruct useful memory.
Deletion could become a network problem by 2031 if autonomous services routinely copy, derive and rebuild durable memories across changing providers. An account-level delete button would not show what happened downstream. CopyWake makes the list because people would need an independent witness, not another promise from the system being questioned. Its honest output is a map of confirmed, retained, unknown and resurfaced copies with routes for challenge.
Why 2031—not 2026?
Deletion requests today mostly target known organisations. The future leap is an operator graph where connected agents propagate useful memory automatically, while standard lineage and action receipts make at least part of that graph independently testable.
Why people would return: Every new connection, correction, relationship change, and provider exit can create another copy chain to inspect.
What would have to change in the world?
By 2031, records may move through connected agents and service networks faster than a person can identify each holder.
- Connected agents replicate source facts and derived memory across operators.
- Closing one account no longer removes the practical effect of the record.
- A copy map plus operator receipts makes responsibility visible.
- Delayed resurfacing tests catch reconstruction and trigger correction or outside review.
Worlds tested: W06 · Basis: design-inference. The sources support present conditions and directional pressures. This 2031 world, product, name and rank are reasoned forecast artefacts.
What makes it more than better AI?
The essential change is distributed copying and responsibility, not smarter discovery or privacy wording.
Conditions that must exist:
- Records and derived memories move automatically across several providers.
- Operators can return standard lineage and action receipts that independent testers can challenge.
When this forecast fails: If memory remains inside a few visible accounts or ordinary controller requests cover downstream effects, the witness is excessive.
How it could be built
The service, technology and institutions it would require
Combine propagation notices, privacy-preserving copy maps, action receipts, canary tests, and human dispute queues.
Copy-chain map
Shows where a record was sent and what derived versions operators declare.
Resurfacing probe
Tests whether a removed fact changes later treatment without revealing extra personal history.
Essential dependencies
technical-and-regulatory · essential
Downstream propagation receipts
Gives each copied or derived record a responsible operator and a route for correction, retention review, or deletion.
What must happen: Connected agents exchange standard downstream notices and respond to independent action tests.
If it is missing: The witness cannot distinguish completed exit from unknown copies and must narrow its promise.
The hardest part: Separating genuine reconstruction from hidden retention without creating a new central surveillance map.
A simpler alternative: Send deletion requests to providers the person already knows.
Risks and limits
What could go wrong?
Warnings
- People facing coercive partners, employers, states, or providers who could exploit a copy map.
Ways it could fail
- The map itself can reveal sensitive relationships, and a clean test can create false confidence.
How it could be abused
- Attackers may impersonate a person to erase records, operators may issue false receipts, or authorities may demand the map for surveillance.
Safeguards
- Minimal metadata, split custody, strong recovery, independent sampling, coercion-safe access, limited probes, and no universal identifier.
When it must stop: It stops deletion or probing when identity, authority, safety, or target cannot be verified.
Why this position
Why CopyWake is ranked #9
The concept is strongly future-facing and could recur whenever relationships or providers change. It ranks ninth because complete deletion is almost impossible to prove, reconstruction can look like hidden retention, and the map itself could become a dangerous concentration of personal history. Those safety and readiness limits make its finish less certain than StewardMesh's bounded human service.
Why it outranks the next forecast: It outranks TrialSlice because deletion and correction affect anyone leaving a connected service, whereas realistic provider trials may remain a narrower shopping behaviour.
It becomes more plausible if…
It could rise if agent networks widely publish verifiable lineage receipts and hidden downstream retention becomes a common, visible harm.
It falls if…
It would fall if providers keep memory inside visible accounts or statutory audits make a separate person-facing witness unnecessary.
Strongest counter-case: Built-in lineage controls and regulator-run deletion audits could be more complete and safer, while a personal copy map might reveal sensitive relationships without proving true erasure.
Rank range across tested weights: 4–10. The exact rank is an authored judgement, not a measured probability.

Finally saw the downstream copies
The map found two agents I had forgotten. One deleted the memory and the other explained its legal retention with a real review contact.

Too many grey boxes
Several providers never returned a usable receipt. I appreciate the honesty, but the app could not tell me whether those memories were actually gone.
